How to Change a Tap Washer

It is important not to ignore a dripping tap, although it may seem like a minor problem, it can actually waste far more water than you might imagine, which if you are on a water meter, can be quite a costly issue!

The sooner the problem is dealt with, the easier it will be to fix.

A standard mixer tap can be repaired relatively simply by following these simple steps:-

Turn off the water supply and open the tap to drain the residual water from the system.

TIP:

put the plug into the plug hole to prevent any small nuts or screws falling in.

Unscrew the tap top plate (this is the small disc with the words hot or cold on it).

As not all taps are manufactured in the same way, it may take a few attempts to work out how the handle comes off.

Unscrew the tap body cover which will expose the headgear nut (hexagonal nut), remove this nut.

The washer sits inside the jumper, you may need a screw driver to dig out the old washer.

Insert a new washer into the jumper and re-assemble the tap in exactly the same sequence.
